Francisco Torre Aledia was born in the Philippines on April 2, 1932. He obtained his medical degree from the University of Santo Tomas in 1959. The following year, he moved to the United State and subsequently, finished his urology residency in 1965 from the University of Maryland Hospital. He became a research fellow in experimental kidney transplantation at the University of Toronto before joining the Veteran Affairs Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa. In 1971, he started his private practice in urology, which lasted 25 years. During his years in private practice, he pioneered in the use of laser in urologic surgeries. He moved back to the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Dayton, where he had practiced for almost eight years.
Dr. Aledia had served all his patients with utmost dedication. Throughout his years of service, he had made himself available to all the staff for help and consultation. He was known by his smile and ever-pleasant disposition. To the surgical staff, he was also known for his technical expertise and surgical precision. To the students and residents, he was most deserving of the Teacher of the Year Award. To the patient whom he cared for, he was known as a jovial and compassionate physician. Dr. Aledia was an epitome of an outstanding physician, mentor, colleague, and friend. Dr. Aledia will be missed deeply.
